Venkatraman is a Pediatric Neurosurgeon at St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital in Boise, Idaho. In addition, he is a Distinguished Professor of Medical Sciences and Technology at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.

Medicine: He obtained an M.D. from the University of Toronto, a neurosurgery residency from the Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, Canada, and a fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery from Northwestern University, Chicago. He was an Associate.           Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Saskatchewan and later at Loma Linda University.

Economics: He has an M.S. and Ph.D from Caltech in Economics and Mathematical Game Theory and was Associate Professor of Economics at University of Guelph, Canada.

Engineering: He is an Electrical Engineer with a B.Tech degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. Currently, he is a faculty in the Haptics Laboratory, Department of Applied Mechanics. He is a Distinguished Professor of Medical Sciences and Technology at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India. He is also a Member of the International Advisory Panel of the Department of Medical Sciences and Technology at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India.

He has published over 100 papers in prestigious international journals, has been awarded 14 research grants, and presented his research in 75 national and international scholarly conferences. He has also worked on brain-computer interfaces and holds a patent in that field.

He was bestowed the Distinguished Alumnus Award of the Indian Institute of Technology and was nominated for the Order of Ontario, Canada, the highest civilian award in the province of Ontario, Canada. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada, a Fellow of the College of Surgeons, U.S.A., a Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
